Nach dem Ende
Nun lag er also da, aus etlichen Wunden blutend, von Krallen und Zähnen
zum Krüppel gemacht und vom Feuer geröstet. Seine Rüstung war bei letzterem
geschmolzen und setzte sich nun schmerzhaft auf der Haut fest wie
dickflüssiges, brennendes Wasser. Die Rüstung war kurzerhand zu einem Feuerofen
geworden, zu einem geschmolzenen Stück Stahl, wie es wohl gerade beim Schmied auf
dem Amboss lag, bei dem er seine Rüstung in jüngeren Jahren voller Stolz
gekauft hatte.
Märchenritter war die falsche Berufswahl gewesen… Der Drache lag zwar
geköpft neben ihm, doch er konnte nicht weg – Das Biest hatte ihn ein Bein gekostet
und seine Rüstung so eingeschmolzen, dass er völlig reglos am Leichnam des
Untieres angelehnt sass, sich kein Stück bewegen konnte und den Tod erwartete.
Das flüssige Eisen versengte seine Haut, doch er wollte weder schreien,
noch weinen, noch irgendetwas anderes tun, um sich möglicherweise retten zu
können.
Sein Leben war eine Ironie gewesen, nichts als eine Lüge. Er hatte
jahrelang trainiert, Körper und Geist gestählt, hatte sich in den
Rittertugenden belehren lassen und war brav jeden Sonntag zur Kirche gegangen.
Am Ende war nicht einmal die
gerettete Prinzessin ihm hold gewesen. Als er da verkrüppelt in schmelzendem
Eisen und triefendem Blut gelegen hatte, hatte die Maid ihn nur entsetzt
angesehen, sich abgewandt und war davongerannt, ohne seine verzweifelten Rufe
zu beachten. Nun hatte er nichts mehr, was verhinderte, ihn zu einem totalen
Nihilisten mutieren zu lassen – Sein Glauben an das Gute, seine Sehnsucht nach
der holden Maid, die er befreit hatte, seine stolze Rüstung und sein rechtes
Bein. Alles weg.
Im Delirium des brennenden Schmerzes bemerkte er nicht einmal, wie das
Eisen langsam fest wurde. In wenigen Minuten würde er sich kein Stück mehr
bewegen können.
Wenigstens wusste er, jetzt, wo sein Leben verdammt war, wie es war, in
flüssigem Eisen zu liegen.
Schon fast erregend brachte der Schmerz seine Nerven zum Pochen, liess
ihn ein feuriges Schaudern fühlen und brach seinen Lebenswillen.
Um Gottes Willen, werde
Schneider! hatte ihm seine alte Frau Mutter einst gesagt, als er seinen sonderbaren
Wunsch geäussert hatte. Hätte er auf sie gehört, hätte ihm genau in diesem
Augenblick möglicherweise Eine Nadel die Pulsschlagadern aufgestochen. Etwas
Ähnliches hätte ihn nicht mehr verwundert, das Leben war für ihn ein Absurdium
ohnegleichen. Erst nun taten sich ihm Grenzen auf, die niemandem auf der Welt
hätten gesprengt werden sollen. Er begriff allmählich, was das Leben brachte.
Tod. Verdammnis. Schmerzen. Enttäuschung.
Andauernd hatte er sich vorgestellt, wie er als alter Mann, umgeben von
einer Horde Kindern auf der Veranda eines schönen Hauses sass, im Schaukelstuhl
umherlümmelnd und eine Pfeife stopfend. Das kleinste Kind, ein liebreizendes
Mädchen von zwei Jahren, hätte auf seinem Schoss gesessen.
Habe ich euch die
Geschichte vom Drachen schon erzählt?, würde er fragen,
und seine Enkel würden mit Freuden seinem prosaischen Können lauschen, während
himmlische Düfte die Tür von Innen verliessen. Die Maid backte wieder Kuchen,
Kuchen, dieses herrliche Gebäck…
Die Realität war überaus ernüchternd.
Hoffentlich würde sich jemand an ihn erinnern. Er wollte keine
Vergessenheit werden, nicht einer von den Vielen, die im Strudel der Zeit
verschlungen worden waren, kein Kind der Ewigkeit, dessen Namen irgendwo da
unterging, wo neues begann.
Draussen vor der Höhle schien die Sonne in lichtem Glanz. Singvögel
zwitscherten und Eichhörnchen hüpften durch die Bäume, welche im Licht wirkten,
als wäre der Mensch verpflichtet, in jeder Situation euphorisch zu sein.
Niemand sprach über die Toten, über die, die gerade in diesem Moment die
Kunst der Folter erleben durften, beziehungsweise mussten. Und niemand gedachte
der Opfer jenseits des Meeres, niemand glaubte daran, dass man irgendwo auf der
sonnigen Welt verhungern konnte, geschweige denn verdursten.
Lieber las man die Abschiedsphantasien eines Mannes, dessen Leben im
selben Moment enden würde wie das von Dutzenden von Kindern.
Und das war gut so. Im matten Glanz der vor schmerzen funkelnden Augen
erkannte man die traurige Wahrheit, die das Leben des Ritters ins irrationale
umgekrempelt hatte: Sein Leben war eine Farce gewesen, er hatte Schatten
nachgejagt und Irrlichter befreit, tagtäglich hatte die romantische Fantasie
des edlen Retters seinen Realitätssinn verdorben, hatte ihm das Interesse am
Leben ausgesaugt und ihn zu einem Gläubigen gemacht. Einem Gläubigen der
Religion, die sein eigenes Gehirn ihm geschaffen hatte, die sein Leben verrenkt
und ihn nur noch an Drachen und entführe Jungfern denken gelassen hatte.
Bestimmt starb gerade in diesem Moment, in der Sekunde, in der seine
Philosophie sich dem Höhepunkt näherte, irgendwo ein Mensch. Irgendwo,
irgendwie bestimmt, also musste er sich hier nicht alleine fühlen.
Oder doch?
Vielleicht bildete er sich das nur ein und das gesamte Universum kreiste
zurzeit nur um ihn, sein Schicksal und seinen Tod.
Gab es Schicksal? Diese dunkle, unheilvolle Kraft, die nur auf das
Sterben erpicht war?
Langsam schloss er seine Augen, er hatte genug. Letzte Gedanken
tummelten sich in seinem Gehirn, fluteten die Zellen und machten ihm leichtes Kopfweh.
Das letzte Denken brachte ihn weiter als jede Schlussfolgerung in seinem
unwichtigen, verschenkten Leben.
Und dann, endlich, schwebte er sachte von dannen…
