3.
Wanakye
Die Menschen in Wanakye waren zumeist einfache
Arbeiter, die ein wenig mehr zu den Göttern hielten als es ihnen gut tat und
ein wenig mehr an Übernatürliches glaubten, als dass es nicht automatisch zu
Angst mutiert wäre.
Um es kurz zu fassen: Sie waren normale Menschen, die
sich nichts als ein schönes Leben ersehnten.
Die Männer gingen morgens an ihre Arbeit, die Frauen
kümmerten sich um den Haushalt. Tagsüber konnte man auf dem leicht buckligen,
fruchtbaren Boden Kinder spielen sehen.
Wayesh mochte weder Dörfer noch ihre Einwohner.
Die „Zivilisation“, die ohnehin nur schwach vertreten
war, bedeutete ihm nichts. Sein Lebensraum waren die endlosen Ebenen, wo es
alles gab, was man zum Überleben brauchte.
Bedächtig schritt er die Stufen zum zweiten Stock des
Häuptlingshauses empor, sein Vater war samt Leibgarde auf Reisen. Somit hatte
Wayesh für einige Tage die Befehlsgewalt über Wanakye… Praktisch, wenn ein
Unglück geschähe.
Naliaka hatte er Tehyme anvertraut, einer Matrone, die
an einem Tisch Platz für zwei brauchte. Das Gute an diesem furchteinflössend
voluminösen Menschen war, dass er auch das Herz von zweien hatte – Wie eine
Mutter war Tehyme. Seit Wayeshs leibliche Mutter gestorben war, hatte sich die
mittlerweile ergraute Tehyme bestens um ihn gekümmert und war in jeder
Angelegenheit hinter ihm gestanden.
Er wusste, dass Naliaka bei ihr bestens aufgehoben
war.
Oben angelangt öffnete Wayesh die Tür seines Gemaches
und trat ein – Gemach war schon beinahe zuviel gesagt, denn es war nichts als
ein weiss gestrichenes Mörtelzimmer mit einem Fenster, einer Kleidertruhe,
einem massiven Bett und einem Schreibtisch.
Der Sohn des Häuptlings machte sich nicht viel aus
Habseligkeiten… Er erfreute sich an anderem.
Seufzend öffnete er die Truhe und begann, zwischen den
darin liegenden Kleidern umherzuwühlen.
Ganz zuunterst musste sein, was er suchte…
Er war sich absolut sicher, es nicht verloren zu
haben, denn hätte er das getan, wäre er längst tot.
Mit solchen Gedanken im Hinterkopf wühlte er noch
schneller, bis er endlich auf etwas Kaltes, Rundes stiess und dieses Etwas
hastig herauszog.
Es war eine Glaskugel, die auf einem einfachen
Metallgestell befestigt war.
Wayesh wandte sich um und liess die Truhe offen, dann
stellte er die Kugel aufs Pult und begann erneut, in der Kiste zu wühlen, bis
er eine Phiole mit roter Flüssigkeit herauszog und die Kiste nun verschloss.
Erneut kehrte er zum pult zurück, setzte sich diesmal jedoch auf den Stuhl und
blickte kurz zur Tür heraus ob niemand in der Nähe war, bevor er sie leise schloss.
Nach dem entkorken der Phiole träufelte Wayesh einige
Tropfen der Flüssigkeit auf die Kugel, die verheissungsvoll schimmernd vor ihm
stand.
Nichts geschah.
Die paar Tropfen kullerten auf normale Art und Weise
das Glas herab und waren drauf und dran, das Hartholz zu beschmutzen, als sich
plötzlich etwas tat: Die Kugel glühte kurz auf, dann drangen Tropfen in sie ein
– In ihrem Inneren ging die Reise für die Flüssigkeit jedoch weiter, die
einzelnen Tropfen zogen sich in der Mitte zusammen und bildeten eine
schwummrige, rote Kugel in der Mitte der durchsichtigen Glassphäre.
Wayesh kannte diesen Prozess schon viel zu lange… Müde
sah er zu, wie das Rot sich ausbreitete und allmählich die ganze Kugel
ausfüllte, bis diese in ein allumfassendes, mattes Bordeaux getaucht war.
Ein Effekt, als fiele ein Tropfen in eine Pfütze,
zeigte sich plötzlich in der Mitte der Sphäre. Erst nur einmal, dann zweimal
und plötzlich immer mehr, bis sich ein konstantes Bild im Glas formte und ein
Gesicht sich abzuzeichnen begann:
Mickrige Züge, langes Kinn, Stupsnase und derart
eingefallene Augen, das das Schwarz um sie herum das halbe Gesicht einzudecken
schien.
Die Augen selbst waren, trotz dem verfärbenden Rot,
undefinierbar: In braunem Untergrund legte sich ein blauer Schatten über ein
grünes Muster.
Das ganze sah ziemlich furchterregend aus, wenn man
Zahayk zum ersten Mal sah… Alleine schon die eng zusammengepressten, dürren
Lippen sprachen Bände von Bitterkeit.
Das Einzige, was das Gesicht des Hexenmeisters
einigermassen Menschlich erscheinen liess, waren die strähnigen, weissen Haare,
die unkontrolliert zu allen Seiten den Kopf hinab hingen.
Wayesh, was für
eine angenehme Überraschung…
Ein hämisches Grinsen legte sich auf das gespenstische
Gesicht in der Sphäre.
„Nicht meinerseits.“, erwiderte Wayesh trocken und
hätte die Kugel am liebsten zerschmettert.
Was führt dich zu
mir?
Zahayks Tonfall hatte sich im Nu geändert. Das Grinsen
war erloschen und der heuchlerische Ton verstummt. Die Stimme erklang nunmehr
kratzig in Raum.
„Ich denke, ich habe, was du suchst.“
Soso…
erstaunlich, dass es so etwas überhaupt noch gibt. Nun, ich vertraue dir
einfach einmal und gehe davon aus, dass er wirklich das ist, was du denkst,
erwiderte die Stimme aus der Kugel, während man dem Kopf die Gier ansehen
konnte.
„Was soll ich tun?“, fragte Wayesh, darauf hoffend,
Naliaka nicht schaden zu müssen.
Das Gesicht in der Sphäre lächelte arrogant und sagte:
Verkenne da nicht
eine Spur Hoffnung in deiner Stimme?
Wayesh schüttelte den Kopf.
„Nein. Und nun sag mir, was zu tun ist, Zahayk.“
Gutgut,
antwortete der Hexenmeister, als nächstes
wirst du dir notieren wie er sich bewegt, wie er aussieht und ob an ihm
irgendetwas Auffälliges zu erkennen ist.
In ein paar Tagen
schickst du deine Recherchen per Falke an Konry Zekya im Tempel der Jahya. Er
wird deine Arbeiten dann an mich weiterleiten.
Der Häuptlingssohn nickte widerstrebend. Dass der
Hohepriester Konry Zekya ein Kontaktmann Zahayks war, war nicht verwunderlich.
Auch die Nähe zu den Göttern schützte niemanden vor der Hexerei, die der wahre
Alleinherrscher über Kimbal war.
„In Ordnung, in einigen Tagen werde ich das Dokument
versenden.“
Triumphierend legte Zahayk den Kopf schief und
betrachtete Wayesh inniger als normal.
Sehr gut… Und ich
warne dich nur einmal. Tue nichts, was meinen Studien schaden könnte, sonst
wirst du es den Rest deines Lebens bitter bereuen.
Sofort verzerrte sich das Bild und mit einem Mal war
die Farbe aus der Kugel entwichen und das Glas wieder klar und durchsichtig…
Von dem eben geführten Gespräch würde nie mehr irgendjemand erfahren. Und
Wayesh war froh darüber, wenn er bedachte was passieren konnte, wenn er
aufflog…
Naliaka mochte die alte Tehyme gut leiden.
Es war eine sehr freundliche, aufgeschlossene Person,
die der Neuen im Dorf kurzerhand etwas zu Essen gegeben und ihr ein schönes
neues Kleid geschenkt hatte, welches in diversen Beigetönen aus dem schönsten
Stoff geschneidert worden war, den die Bediensteten der Häuptlingsfamilie
hatten finden können.
Da das Kleid jedoch eher zur Eleganz dienen sollte,
wollte Tehyme Naliaka noch eine passende Seitentasche geben, nach der sie nun
eine gewaltige Truhe durchsuchte.
„Einen Moment, Kindchen, da wird wohl noch etwas zu
finden sein“, murmelte sie, während sie sich tief in den massiven Behälter
hinunterbückte und den Anschein machte, als wolle sie darin tauchen gehen.
„Gib mir sonst einfach die Nächstbeste, wirklich, ich
achte nicht auf Mode!“, erwiderte Naliaka schmunzelnd und fand es drollig, wie
die alte Frau sich um ihr Wohlergehen bemühte. Diese schien sie jedoch zu
ignorieren und zog nach kurzem Warten eine ansehnliche, erdbraune Seitentasche
hervor, deren Riemen man einfach über die Schulter tragen konnte und in der
sich viel Platz für allerlei Dinge befand.
Dankend nickte Naliaka und legte sich die Tasche um.
„Nun, Tehyme… Ich hätte noch eine Frage.“
„Die wäre?“, fragte die alte, freundlich aussehende
Frau, Naliaka anlächelnd.
„Was will Wayesh eigentlich?“
„Oh, das weiss ich nicht genau“, erwiderte Tehyme
achselzuckend, „er weist niemanden in seine Pläne ein, nicht einmal seinen
Vater… Manchmal kommt es deswegen zu Streit, doch kurze Zeit später
entschuldigt Häuptling Ergon sich und alles wird wieder wie vorher… Obwohl er
ja meist Recht hat.“
„Ah“, antwortete Naliaka stirnrunzelnd und wollte noch
etwas fragen, als es an die Tür klopfte.
„Wer ist da?“, rief Tehyme, wohl wissend dass es wohl
nur einer sein konnte, der an die Gästezimmertür klopfte…. Eine Männerstimme
erklang von draussen:
„Wayesh.“
Hastig schickte sich der freundliche Fleischberg an,
die Tür zu öffnen und den Häuptlingssohn einen Blick auf Naliaka werfen zu
lassen. Das Staunen war kaum zu Übersehen.
„Du siehst… blendend aus!“
Sie errötete ganz leicht, doch Wayesh lenkte das
Gespräch hastig um.
„Naliaka, ich würde dir gerne das Dorf zeigen… Nur
damit du weißt, wo du was findest, in deiner neuen Heimat.“
Er lächelte charmant und legte Naliaka fürsorglich
einen Arm um die Schulter, während er sie aus dem Raum in die Eingangshalle und
durch das ziemlich grosse Tor auf den Weg zum Dorf führte.
Wanakye war ziemlich einfach aufgebaut: Am Fusse des
Kyake waren die Häuser der Bewohner angesiedelt, von wo aus ein säuberlich
gearbeiteter Weg, auf dem notfalls sogar ein Karren bequem heraufgezogen werden
konnte, hinauf zur Häuptlingsresidenz führte, welche von Aussen dezent an einen
Tempel erinnerte.
Von diesem eher kleinen Plateau aus führte wiederum
ein verschlungener Pfad durch zwei grosse Felsen hindurch, den Kyake empor.
Der Berg selbst war knappe tausend Meter hoch und von
einer völlig eigenen Flora bewohnt: Bergwälder aus Nadeltannen, viele
eigentümliche Tiere und etliche uralte Ruinen, von denen niemand genau wusste,
woher sie stammten.
Naliaka mochte Wayeshs Nähe. Bei den meisten Menschen
empfand sie Abneigung, wenn sie Körperkontakt herstellen wollten, doch dieser
ominöse Mann hatte eine solche Ausstrahlung, dass es ihr nicht einmal etwas
ausgemacht hätte, wenn er sie hätte umarmen wollen… Eher im Gegenteil.
So schnell es nur ging vertrieb Naliaka den Gedanken
wieder und sah Wayesh grinsend an, während er verträumt in den Himmel starrte
und noch immer einen Arm um ihre Schulter gelegt hatte.
„Es tut gut, gehalten zu werden, wenn man Jahrelang
nur abgestossen worden ist“, bemerkte sie, noch immer grinsend und zog somit
Wayeshs Aufmerksamkeit auf sich.
Leicht schüchtern lächelte er und antwortete:
„Es tut gut, jemandem zu Helfen.“
Sie beide lachten kurz und setzten dann ihren Weg den
Hügel hinab fort – Kurz darauf waren sie im Dorf angekommen und wähnten sich
zwischen einfachen, blockförmigen Lehmbauten, etwa zwanzig an der Zahl, die
rund um einen geebneten und gemähten Platz Standen, in dessen Mitte sich ein
Ziehbrunnen befand.
Kinder Spielten lachend Ball, Fangen oder fochten mit
Holzschwertern vergnügliche Freundschaftskämpfe.
Unter gespannten Tüchern, die eine schattige, bequeme
Nische unter den Hauseingängen erzeugten, sassen ältere Menschen, unterhielten
sich oder gingen leichten Arbeiten wie Nähen, Schnitzen oder dem Knoten von
Seilen nach.
„Wie überleben die Leute hier? Vegetieren sie nicht in
Armut?“, fragte Naliaka erstaunt, als sie die kleinen Häuschen und einfachen,
aber zufriedenen Menschen sah, die ihrem Tagwerk nachgingen.
„Keineswegs. Ihr Leben mag schlicht aussehen, doch sie
haben alles was sie brauchen und beschweren sich nie. In Wanakye kennt jeder
jeden, und so macht es den Händlern meist nichts aus, wenn jemand gerade nicht
genügend Geld hat. Sie haben ein schönes Leben, weil sie einander zu Helfen
wissen.“
Interessiert über den einfachen Lebensstil der
Bewohner von Wanakye blickte sich Naliaka um – Und musste am Ende Wayesh Recht
geben.
Diese Leute sahen Glücklich aus.
Sie waren keine Sklaven des Lebens…
Dieses Bild machte ihr insgeheim Angst.
Eine wohlbekannte Furcht beschlich Naliaka, doch im
Schlimmeren Mass als je zuvor: Sie hatte Angst, diesen Frieden, diese ländliche
Ruhe zu zerstören.
Dass sie die Macht dazu hatte war ihr bekannt, doch
wollte sie diese nie einsetzen… Sie hatte nie das sein wollen, was sie war, was
in ihr Lebte, was ihre Seele verfluchte und auf ihr Selbstwertgefühl spuckte
wie schon so mancher Mensch und so manches Gefühl in ihrem Leben.
„Haben sie… Waffen?“
„Warum?“
Fragend sah Wayesh sie an und es machte den Anschein,
als würde er Naliaka fester an sich pressen.
„Weil…“ Wieder wurden ihre Augen wässrig und sie
schaute beschämt auf dem Boden.
„Blödsinn“, erwiderte Wayesh lächelnd und legte sanft
seine freie Hand unter Naliakas Kinn, bevor er ihr Gesicht mit leichtem Druck
so wandte, dass sie sich in die Augen sahen.
„Ich werde dich nicht sterben lassen. Lieber sie als
du…“
Noch bevor das Gespräch weitergehen konnte, wurde es
unterbrochen.
Erschrocken wähnten die Beiden eine Horde Kinder vor
sich und so manch einer, der im Schatten seines Vordachs sass, schmunzelte
wissend.
„Herr Wayesh!“, begann ein rund zehnjähriger Junge,
der ein Holzschwert in der Hand hielt, „habt Ihr eine Geliebte?“
Fast zeitgleich erröteten Naliaka und Wayesh, und zu
Naliakas Überraschung erwiderte Wayesh: „Ja Kabey, das ist meine Geliebte. Sie
heisst Naliaka und kommt aus Syskay.“
Einen Moment lang überlegte die „Geliebte“, ob sie
intervenieren sollte, kam jedoch zum Schluss, dass Wayesh bestimmt wusste, was
er tat.
„Wann werdet Ihr heiraten?!“, rief plötzlich ein
kleines Mädchen mit wilden braunen Locken. „Im Moment wissen wir das noch
nicht, aber wenn wir uns entschliessen, werdet ihr es natürlich erfahren!“
Wayesh lachte und fügte noch hinzu:
„Ich wollte aber eigentlich Naliaka die Stadt zeigen.
Wenn ihr uns also entschuldigen würdet…“
Die Kinder nickten und kehrten schon sehr bald zu
ihren Tätigkeiten zurück.
„Seit wann bin ich denn deine Geliebte, Schatz?“,
witzelte Naliaka frech und gab Wayesh einen sanften Klaps auf die Schulter.
Er sah sie an, noch immer mit dem Arm um ihre Schulter
und erwiderte:
„Eine Fremde, dich ich in einer Stadt aufgelesen habe
und den Grund dafür selbst nicht kenne gerät schneller in Verruf als die
Zukünftige Häuptlingsfrau… Liebling.“
Ein Grinsen zierte seine maskulinen Züge und Wayesh
führte die hell lachende Naliaka weiter.
